The Power of Vulnerability

I think this week I’m going to start with a video first. Let’s change it up a bit. The video is about the power of vulnerability. I think it’s an amazing video and gain something new from it every time I watch it. What would a motivational post be without a motivational video. So here goes, I hope you enjoy!

I believe and from what I can conceive of my time in the business world, that there is this stigma that being honest, authentic and vulnerable is a sign of weakness. I was always told, and still get told to this day to not show all my cards. If I do, people will take advantage of me. The truth is, it’s the opposite. It’s when I’m not truthful, authentic and vulnerable that people are able to take advantage of me.

I’m not talking about lying to people or trying to screw them over, what I’m talking about is being truthful, authentic and vulnerable about who you are and what you stand for. However, in that light, it’s a tough thing to do because sometimes being honest with ourselves means that we may not be on the same level with our client, customers, family or friends, and thus either not get the business deal or hurt the other person.

What I have found though, is that when I am honest with our potential customers and clients, they are able to make better sense of our pricing, our ethics and the way we do business and their enjoyment level about Social Media raises. Yes, people love getting a deal, but I fully believe that people will pay for value over a discount.

So how does this happen. On occasion, and this depends on how your company’s standards and practices are set up, but we have found that having a bottom line price for our services helps when it comes to negotiating a proposal.

When we send out a proposal to a client, which usually starts with a generous discount (we’re a new company still, thus we are looking to build up our name) and our potential client asks if they can get a better discount we take into account whether or not we’ve reached our bottom line. If we haven’t, then we look at what the project is and whether or not it is a challenge we want to take on. Also, if we foresee a good working relationship, then we will negotiate a new discount that is a win for both of us.

If we have reached our bottom line, or we feel that the price is fair for the project, then we send the client an email back stating that the price we’ve proposed is firm and include details about our procedures and where the cost value is. At that point it’s up to the client to either agree upon said price, or disagree and move on. Sometimes the proposal is approved, and sometimes we never hear from them again.

The truth is, there is power in vulnerability, in being honest and being authentic. Being so will allow you to be proud of yourself and continue to grow your business the way you want it to grow. As a start-up company, I understand that money can be tight and that work is work, and if you are okay with giving lavish discounts and not informing your clients with why your prices are the way they are, then the choice is yours.

But for me, it eats me up inside knowing that I sold myself for less than I am worth and thus being honest, authentic and vulnerable with my current and future clients (friends and family) is something that is very important to me. Like I said, in the end we may not get the account, but at least I have my happiness. And in the end, to me, that’s what matters most.

Custom Facebook Static pages are your first line of offence to promote your brand and build intrigue into who and what you and/or your company are. Since it’s the first thing most new viewers will see (unless you don’t have one, then they just see your wall), it’s important to have a graphic element that acts like an extension of your website and gives off that familiar feeling that only your branding and likeness can.
Some people believe that they can create a Facebook page them self, and it’s true, but we firmly believe that although your “message” is most important, image, especially in the beginning, is a very close second. We are also aware that there are many Facebook Page templates out there that offer easy set-up and affordable pricing, but when it comes down to it, isn’t it better to stand out from the crowd? That’s what a custom static Facebook page can do.
If you’re looking to give your Facebook page its own individuality and personality, isn’t it time that you had a custom Facebook Static page designed just for you? Ready to take your SOCiAL presence to the next level?
